Akzo Nobel (2003)

Akzo Nobel is active in three business areas: Pharma, Coatings and Chemicals. Headquartered in the Netherlands, the company has activities in more than 80 countries and employs approximately 65,200 people.

For Akzo Nobel, I worked in several projects.

At Evident Interactive, a system was designed, based on Microsoft CMS 2002. The system includes a 'web wizard' that enables fast creation of basic web sites (built in cooperation with InfoSupport). The main feature of the system, however, is the presence of several web service based connectors for centralised functions like a document library and a news repository.

The financial gain by sharing and distributing content was the main argument for the autonomous business units to choose for this solution. These centralised web service-enabled functions provide the business units with a tool that they can use without the risk of a vendor lock-in, since the services can also be used from different platforms.

In practice, most business units chose to join the MCMS 2002 initiative, because of its low costs, usability and ready-to-use corporate design templates.
