Education: geophysics at the Utrecht University

In 1999, a study in Geophysics at the University of Utrecht, specializations Exploration Geophysics and Tectonophysics, resulted in a Master's degree.

Graduation report

The graduation project consisted of a practical and theoretical component.

An EM field exploration method was designed to give new insights in shallow subsurface layering. It proved existing measurement methods to be insufficient.

Furthermore, an inversion algorithm for the processing of EM field data was implemented through the development of web-enabled processing software (FORTRAN, ASP, Delphi, HTML). This gave future users the opportunity to process their measurements on the Internet, right at the field location.

Conference

The exploration method, processing tool and results were presented at the EEGS conference in Budapest, Hungary (1999). This led to the founding of Geophysics.nl.

Projects

During this university period Sander participated in several projects in China (3D modeling using GPS/E/EM, in cooperation with DLO Wageningen and the Chinese Academy of Sciences Beijing) and France (tracing Roman remains using M/E/EM/GPR/GPS, with RAAP Amsterdam, the Sorbonne University of Paris en the Patras University of Greece).

Extra activities were courses in Hydrology and Cultural Anthropology.
